Ross Bond
Ross Bond is a second generation nurseryman, with more than 50 years’ experience.
Many plant lovers on the north shore and northern beaches will have fond memories of Bond’s Nursery and the Mosman Garden Centre. Ross established and ran both retail outlets after getting started in his dad’s nursery and landscaping business.
Ross has a history of doing things differently. At Bond’s Nursery, he introduced the first coffee lounge/restaurant in Sydney, as well as a children’s crèche back in the late 1980s and doubled his turnover in 18 months.
No-one had a crèche at the time. Yet, the majority of our customers were mothers. Big business takes so long to appreciate what their customers need. We knew because we talked with our customers first hand every day. As a result we had the highest average sale in Sydney at the time. There’s still no-one else with a creche,” he said.
After selling Bond’s nursery 14 years ago he established Rent-A-Garden, a shrub and hedge rental service for customers who require an instant garden, either for selling their property, or holding an event and wedding. This evolved to include garden clean-ups, makeovers and landscaping, for residential and commercial properties.
Ross is once again offering something unique with his BALCONY PLANTS business.
“in my extensive experience with helping people sell their properties, I found very few balconies had been professionally landscaped. Most just contained a collection of little burnt offerings in tiny pots! The majority of people are just not getting the right advice, and then it all seems too hard to try again. I want people to feel confident that their investment in a balcony garden will have rewarding, long-term results.”
Ross has two sons, both are champions on the ice. His eldest , Trent, is a five-time ice-dancing champion for Australia, and is now a full-time professional on large cruise ships in the Carribean. His younger son, Brett, competes for Australia at an international level in senior ice hockey. Having also obtained a business degree he now assists in the company directing the IT section, and development of the website, adding a third generation to the Bond business.

Jacqueline Conway
Joining the business in 2007, Jacqueline brought with her a combination of skills including photography, design, marketing, graphic printing and project management.
"I have always had a keen interest in horticulture and garden design. Helping clients transform a balcony or terrace into a green space is such a joy! It provides a challenging yet very satisfying role, especially when such amazing end results are achieved. We receive such positive feedback from our clients...the most common being that they wished they had contacted us for a balcony makeover sooner!"
With two young sons, she understands how precious free-time is, making sustainable, minimum-maintenance gardens all the more important.
Working with the back-up of Ross extensive horticultural knowledge, Jacqueline oversees as many installs as possible, to ensure the best results are achieved, and professional service is provided.
